Harvard finds the secret to longevity and it amounts to nothing

A recent study conducted at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and published in the prestigious scientific journal, Cell Metabolism, showed that by keeping our mitochondrial network (the  engines inside our cells) satisfied while maintaining plasticity, we actually live longer.  This term “longer” has been defined as up to “30% longer or an extra 25 years of high quality life”, as confirmed by studies out of the University of Southern California School of Gerontology and Duke Medical Center. The researchers in this recent study reaffirmed longevity could be obtained by practicing what is called intermittent fasting – a process of eliminating food for a period of time.  At the time of the study, the researchers knew fasting extended life, but we’re not sure how it worked. It is just amazing how the body has been designed to live a very long time (science now indicating the possibility of 120 years) on its own and without the help of external interventions.  Currently we are only able to obtain just over 80 years resulting in a 33% loss of use with massive interventions.  Could it be the fact that modern day society has no instruction manual on how to maintain balance “homeostasis”? Modern science (if you want to call it that because the ancients knew of the benefit of fasting thousands of years ago) is just scratching the surface when it comes to the intelligent design of the body and our ability to self-heal, self-regulate and self-regenerate.

The most disturbing part of this research is the fact that the lead scientist involved appears to be more concerned with “harnessing the benefits therapeutically” as stated in an article in the Harvard Gazette. Heather Weir, lead author of the study, who conducted the research while at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health is now a research associate at Astex Pharmaceuticals. In other words, let’s make billions and billions of dollars in profits, at the expense of the American taxpayer, on a therapeutic solution that mimics a process that is structurally designed into everyone’s body and can be activated daily at zero cost.  Our nation and the world would be better served if we would focus on the root cause of aging and metabolic illness – unhealthy (fragmented) mitochondria.  Teaching as many as possible how to fast in order to maximize the effects and maintain healthy fused and flexible mitochondria is the solution to the global healthcare crisis.  All of this can be done at a fraction of the cost of Big Pharma developing a “cure” without addressing the “cause”.  Prior to the establishment of modern medicine and the modern Pharmaceutical industry, fasting was a very common therapy used in the medical world.  Fasting was discontinued because it was considered non-beneficial or more so considered a possible financial threat to the medical community at the time.  Ironic how 100’s of years later we are now learning just how effective fasting is and how wrong the doctors at the time where when they passed judgement on the benefits of fasting as seen in this most recent research.  Looks like we need to now reevaluate what science has been telling us to be true when in fact much of it has been proven to be false.

Nobel Prize winner Upton SInclair published a book on fasting called the “Fasting Cure” “in 1911 and went into detail how fasting was used at the time and the benefits experienced by real people.  Sinclair was keenly interested in health and nutrition throughout his 88 year life (looks like he benefited from fasting as the average life expectancy of a male born in 1878 was not more than 44 years). Sinclair experimented with various diets, and with fasting. He believed that periodic fasting was important for health saying, “I had taken several fasts of ten or twelve days’ duration, with the result of a complete making over of my health” Just look at the impact we would have on the cost of healthcare if everyone practiced the art of fasting as a personal “primary care” tool? People would be healing themselves for FREE and without the assistance of government, big pharma and the medical community while saving precious medical resources for those who are in real need of external interventions.  No co-payments, No Doctor visits, No 4 TRILLION dollar industry having to deal with too many sick people.  Fasting is something we can share with everyone, do it ourselves, spend nothing on it all while practicing a scientifically proven modality that benefits one’s health and longevity.

The art of fasting is nothing new and dates back to the Persians in 600 BC where it is recorded in the Book of Daniel documenting how Daniel and his friends harnessed the power of fasting and plants to prove health superiority over the Kings toxic diet of “junk food”.  In today’s world of fasting we find a variety of protocols: 16/8, alternate day, 5/2 and periodic fast to name a few.  All fasting protocols referenced require the faster to enter into a period of “zero calories” for the duration of the fasting period in order maximize the benefits of reducing ones insulin for an extended period of time in order to regain sensitivity in ones insulin.  Water, coffee and non caloric beverages are permitted during the fasting period.  There are some protocols that have allowed the use of calories that have minimal to zero effect on insulin.  The most common is the use of MCT oils (medium chain triglycerides) and the most common being coconut oil.  The alternate day fast is pretty simple to follow as you eat one day and fast the next.  The 5/2 diet is one where you eat five days a week and fast for two random days in the 7 day cycle.  Periodic fasting is when you embark on a multi day water fast that can be as short as two or three days and as long as multiple weeks all depending on the individual goals of the individual.  The most popular is the 16/8 also known as “time restricted feeding”. 16/8 is a daily fast where you restrict your eating to a specific window (time period) of 8 hrs or less and you restrain from eating for 16 hrs or more.  Current science supports all methods of fasting to be beneficial with the 16/8 and the periodic fast to be the most beneficial.  The 16/8 is the easiest for those just starting a fasting lifestyle.  Anyone can fast to some extent depending on their current health conditions.  DISCLAIMER: It is always recommended to start slow and consult your physician if you are currently being treated for specific conditions or have any concerns.

The purpose of the Harvard study was to find a way to mimic what our body was designed to do originally.

“The researchers found that restricting the worms’ diet, or mimicking dietary restriction through genetic manipulation of an energy-sensing protein called AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), maintained the mitochondrial networks in a fused or “youthful” state. In addition, they found that these youthful networks increased lifespan by communicating with organelles called peroxisomes to modulate fat metabolism. “Low-energy conditions such as dietary restriction and intermittent fasting have previously been shown to promote healthy aging. Understanding why this is the case is a crucial step toward being able to harness the benefits therapeutically,” (1)

With all the benefits of fasting ask yourself how can a study, funded by NON-PROFITS and a government agency be so focused on supporting the development of a therapeutic solution that comes at such a high cost to our healthcare system when in reality taxpayer money would be better spent on educating the public on the benefits of fasting? In conclusion, fasting is a discipline that requires an intentional change and a life long commitment.  Fasting is not for everyone, but who would not want to live 30% longer with a high level of health and all one has to do is just reduce the time when one EATS?

ACTION:  The best way to start to improve your health is by adopting a simple fasting lifestyle. First step is to skip breakfast, eat a late lunch around 1 pm and eat dinner around 7pm and instantly you are now practicing TRF – Time restricted feeding – and reaping the benefits.

The Benefits of Neem Powder

Neem, a leafy tree also known as the “Indian Lilac” is commonly used in traditional Indian medicine. More than 140 active compounds have been isolated from this tropical plant. The leaves, flowers, fruit, seeds, gum, oil and bark all

have health benefits. The powder is made by drying and grinding neem leaves or a blend of leaves, flowers, seeds, fruit and bark. notes that neem leaves have been used in the treatment of worm infections, leprosy and ulcers, and for heart disease. Neem powder is available in loose form or as capsules and tablets.

Immune Health notes that neem has been used as an insecticide, insect repellent and fungicide. In traditional medicine, neem is taken internally as powder capsules and tablets or as an oil to help treat malaria, worms and ulcers. A review published in “Current Medicinal Chemistry” reports that this herb has anti-bacterial, antiviral and anti-fungal qualities, which may help the body fight off disease-causing pathogens and infection. Additionally, the immuno-modulating, anti-allergenic, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of neem may help balance the immune system.

Treat Ulcers

Research published in the journal “Life Sciences” in 2004 concluded that neem bark extract may help treat stomach ulcers. Researchers gave patients with digestive ulcers a dose of 30 milligrams of powdered extract twice a day for 10 days. After treatment with the neem extract, the patients showed a 77 percent decrease in stomach acid, helping heal and prevent ulcers in the digestive tract.

Effect on Diabetes

Compounds found in the outer shell or husk of neem seeds may help treat Type 2 diabetes and protect the heart from complications related to diabetes. An animal study published in 2008 in the “Journal of Ethnopharmacology” reported that neem extract helped treat diabetic rats that were also given insulin. Additionally, neem prevented heart damage in the animals. However, further clinical research is needed to determine if the neem extract would have the same benefit for people.

Prevent Dental Decay

Many of the medicinal compounds found in neem powder — anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and others — may also treat dental disorders and keep teeth and gums healthy. Neem powder can be used as a natural toothpaste to clean your teeth. Research published in the “Journal of Ayurveda Integrative Medicine” reported that even chewing on sticks from the neem tree may help reduce dental plaque and control bacteria in the mouth.

Screw GMO plant and animal derived products – THEY ARE KILLING US.

When will enough be enough – how gluttony has led to global destruction of our food chain and the health of humans and animals across the globe (while those in charge at corporations and governments did nothing).  The German’s in the Der Speigel article are taking Monsanto to task because Roundup causes CANCER and the EU is approaching (December 15) their decision to renew Monsanto’s license to sell Roundup in the EU for the next 10 years. The risk by far outweigh the rewards.  It would be great to see the USA follow as legal cases are mounting against Monsanto here is the USA.  Cheap hamburgers from cheap soybeans is not an asset to society but a liability.  The outcomes are effecting our health and our environment.  The time has come for consumers across the world to increase the resistance against GMO foods and their evil perpetrators – JUST DO NOT BUY them when ever possible.  Ask every-time you can for your local retailers to carry NON-GMO options.  If you cannot find them locally then support NON-GMO farmers online by buying direct.  As consumers rise up, corporations will change or go out of business.  No company is to large now for the connected consumer.  Don’t let a day go by where you miss an opportunity to by NON-GMO because the bigger they (GMO manufactures) are the HARDER THEY FALL.

Health eating is intention and you can start today.

Obesity – It’s not the damn calories…….

Have you struggled for years to loose weight and when you finally do it IT all comes back and more?  Well you are not alone, all most all diets fail in the end.  The goal of the diet world is to keep you as a lifetime customer just like Big Pharma and Big Medical.  No one wants to eliminate the problem, they all just want to manage it.  Calorie reduction results in metabolism reduction and a never ending feeling of hunger.  Our bodies are very unique machines that adapt to their environments.  Create a crappy environment for your body and you will get crappy results.  In the video below, Jason Fung explains it is not about calories and our ability to control them, but the fact that obesity is tied to insulin and the fact most obese people are insulin resistant.  Solve the insulin problem (become insulin sensitive) and you solve the obesity problem.   You can find additional resources on Fasting at

Less is better…….

Just wanted to share with you a resent article by Jason Fung, one of the worlds leading experts in fasting and how fasting is a great interdiction for food addictions and hunger issues.  In short, fasting reduces cravings and hunger.   We are just scratching the surface as to the power of fasting and how it can deal with multiple types additions.  If fasting can over come the single greatest addition in all of history – SUGAR,  just think what it can do for other life threatening additions:  alcohol, drugs,  etc.

Fasting is the best foundation for anyone looking to CHANGE and improve their health and well being.  Everything you are doing will be amplified when a fasting protocol is adopted in ones daily routine.

It’s all about quick fixes and money!

We are bombarded with consumption messages and quick fix messages to such an extreme, our nation is obese and broke – Guess we have some dam good marketing companies here in the USA.  Back in the day I called it “Code Blue it’s you – the cause and cure to the health and debit crisis” – not Wall Street, not the Government and not your neighbor – No it is YOU.   Our 4+ trillion dollar health care industry does nothing but want to sell us more and more while managing our conditions and not eliminating them.  Heck companies know that 80 – 90% of all healthcare cost are due to poor lifestyle choices, but they continue to support these poor lifestyle choices based on the notion that they make what consumers want regardless of the impact or consequences.  No one is ever looking to sell less and less.  My recommendation now is to wake up every morning and ask “what can I REMOVE from my life today?”  One place everyone start start at is eating.  I recommend to everyone that wants to live a long health life (30% longer) practice time restricted or periodic fasting and you will save money because you eat less, become healthier and require less healthcare.  This is the only health product that PAYS YOU to get healthier.  The sooner you start this practice, the faster you will obtain better health and a better place of financial stability.

The attached article by Jason Fung goes in to the research that shows just how much crap we consume that is not effective.  Point in case – supplements are just not as effective as one might think, but are still pushed by industries that are revenue driven.  The following quote from Jason’s blog points out our current “quick fix” culture – if you are asking yourself  “What can I eat/ take/ supplement to help me lose weight?” then you are completely going in the wrong direction. The question you need to ask is “What can i NOT eat/take/ supplement to help me lose weight?”

This is the question we all should be asking not just about food and diet but everything we consume – PERIOD.  If  one is apposed to fracking and off shore drilling, then we should not be buying items packaged in plastic.  The massive manufacturing of “single use plastics” is filling up our oceans and land fills while entering our food chain as microscopic plastic particles.  If we want to be healthier and protect the environment, then we should STOP purchasing products that have chemicals and petroleum products.  If we want to help others, than we should buy products that are Fair Trade or Fair Wage manufactured all with out the interference of governments.  In the end what is manufactured is directly connected to OUR purchase actions or what is now defined as “Supply Chain Micro Signals” (SCMS).  Change is the future, but is it not accidental and it starts with YOU.

Fasting the future of health, wellness and weight loss

Struggling to be healthy? Ever tried “Intermittent Fasting” or “Time restricted Fasting”? Take 10 min and read this article from one of the world’s experts on fasting – Dr. Jason Fung. You will learn our current diet recommendations “Calorie Restriction” recommended by 95% of our dietary community has a failure rate of 99.5%. It blows my mind how we continue to poor TRILLIONS of dollars a year into a system with a failure rate of 99.5%. God made our bodies to self-manage health and weight (no healthcare needed), the problem lies in our lack of an “operating manual” and our health , medical and fitness industries that fail to address the truth because they are driven by profit. Fasting is the first step in the proper operation of our bodies.  Others need to know there is hope and it is FREE for those who want change in their lives. (Most fasters find they SAVE money on groceries and eating out) Fasting is a lifestyle that SAVES you money every day…….
